My Kitty

On Friday I had to put my kitty of sixteen years to sleep. Over the last year or two he had been getting skinnier and skinnier until a couple of months ago he was down to 5 1/2 pounds. He was 11 pounds most of his life so he was just bones and fur. We took him to the vet in early April and after many vet visits determined that no one knew what was wrong and he would need exploratory surgery but probably wouldn't live through it.
He gained a pound or so and then about a month ago started loosing weight again. A week ago he was down to 3 1/2 pounds and Thursday of last week the vet said he was wasting away, his organs were starting to shut down and he was going blind. My husband brought my kitty home and we spent the night feeding him chicken, taking him outside and cuddling him. Thursday morning at 10:45am PST I held him while the vet administered euthanasia. He was gone in an instant. Here and then gone. Life is fleeting.

I will miss my kitty. My Takela (pronounced Tequila). Cat face. Bad cat. My baby kitty that I have had since he was 4 weeks old and so sick the vets didn't think he would live. He greeted me at the door, slept with me at night and sat in my studio with me during the day.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know just how devastating it is to lose a beloved pet. The world seems just a little colder without our furry loves. I hope you'll take comfort in knowing your kitty had the very best life possible in your care.

So sorry--it is so hard to lose our furry friends. It's hard but it was the last kind thing you did for her, you cared for her well, right to the end. (((hugs)))

Sadly, that exact thing happened to our Miss Purdy (she was actually 22 years old!) but she just started to lose weight so rapidly and the vet basically said the kindest thing to do is to put her to sleep. We never got the chance as she passed on her own the morning that we were going to bring her in. She too died peacefully while we held her. It's strange to not see her around the house and jumping into my lap whenever I sit down.

So I'll share a tear with you. Thanks for the friendship and companionship Takila and Miss Purdy, rest in peace.

Oh, Amy, I am so sorry to hear about Takela. Only those of us who have pets can understand what it is like to lose one. What a wonderful life you gave this kitty. You will miss him.

Oh, dear. Amy, I am so so sorry to hear this. I cried a few tears for you and Takela. I have two kitties of my own and feel your pain. Sounds like he was deeply loved from beginning to end. He had a good life and it was his time. Such a difficult cycle to witness. Thinking of you. BIG HUG. xox
